The practicality of Macrobiotics is that it can be practiced by anyone, anywhere, every day. It does not require a special time taken from everyday life to practice it. It is an integral part of everyday life. For these reasons, it is the ultimate self-improvement vehicle. The aim of macrobiotics is to cure the illnesses of the soul; but for that, physical illnesses cannot cure. It is after the work of the soul that we can absorb correct foods; and it is this soul that cures illness. You have understood that it is not macrobiotics that cures, but the understanding of the philosophy. It is not rice or gomasio, but the attention of our mind that gives us will, and recovery occurs within a few days. -George Ohsawa

Juliana has over 20 years experience in cooking and entertaining. She received her professional training as a Visual Artist in Montreal at Concordia University and holds a Masters degree in Studio Arts. She is represented by Galerie Art Mûr here in Montreal and she is also a Part-Time Instructor in the Painting and Drawing department of the Studio Arts Program of Concordia University and Instructor in Digital Photography at the Visual Arts Centre in Westmount. Juliana is as passionate about creating art in the kitchen as she is in her own artistic practice.....she has resided in many countries such as Zurich, Switzerland, NYC and Venezuela and loves to shop at the many local ethnic supermarkets in Montreal especially in the heart of Mile End where she lives and breathes city life. She has been teaching cooking classes in her home for the last six years, sharing recipes that she has gathered over years of global travel with a growing awareness of natural food and local ingredients becoming increasingly popular in its relation to our total well-being. Her cooking courses have been featured in “The Food, Arts and Cultural” section of the Montreal Gazette 2008 and she became interested in ‘Macrobiotics’ when she first moved to Canada in the 1990’s and credits her mentor, Bonnie Tees of Bonnie’s Restaurant for her knowledge and wisdom. Most of her recipes have been adapted to our present lifestyles and are passed over from close friends, neighbors or family with an acute awareness of a healthy and conscious community and seasonal availability of local food produce; in order to make beneficial, wholesome choices for her family and herself.
