Students will be introduced to the history and theory of Focusing. They will discover how their physical being deals with an issue while learning to sense their body’s own experience of life. Students practice basic focusing techniques on themselves, with a focusing partner, and in a professional practice with clients. They will participate in several experiential exercises that will address how to create a space for deep listening to self and others, how to deal with the inner critic and exercises to listen to the inner creative being.
Focusing is a particular inward-looking process that goes beyond thoughts and feelings. It’s as if you are becoming your own good listener. The Focusing process is based on a radical philosophy of change: that there is no need to do anything to what you are feeling in order to experience transformation. The result is greater calm, wiser choices, and a deeper sense of connection to your own life and being.

This course emphasizes the social and cultural history of western holistic medicine from ancient times to today, including medical traditions from India and Asia, particularly China and Japan. The course follows humanity’s ongoing desire to comprehend in a holistic framework, the body, health and its counterpoint, disease. While the term “holistic” was coined in 1926 and its reference to medicine appearing later in 1960, the philosophy that informs holism has its roots in Greco-Roman antiquity. The course explores early criticism of western medicine of the late 18th century, which served to set the foundation for the emergence of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), as it is now known. The course also investigates various subjects from a historical perspective, including: homeopathy, naturopathy, herbalism, bodywork and the evolving role of the health practitioner.

This course teaches the necessary homeopathic tools when encountering an emergency or acute health crisis. The course begins with a brief survey of the basic tenets of the science of homeopathy, as well as its philosophy. Students will embark on the treatment of a variety of traumas and acute conditions, as well as cover in depth the various remedies used in injuries and wounds and the treatment of many acute conditions, such as digestive ailments, bladder infections, colds, flus and coughs; menstrual complaints, eye infections, sore throats, earaches and common pediatric maladies. Students will develop insight into how to evaluate homeopathically a First Aid or acute condition and how to prescribe effectively the appropriate homeopathic remedy. The goal of the course is for the student to be empowered to use these newly acquired homeopathic tools, knowledge and understanding in their personal and professional lives.
Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of modern homeopathy, made a significant discovery when he realized natural substances that produce certain signs and symptoms in a healthy person may also cure another person who is unfortunately experiencing the same symptoms during an illness. This is the fundamental law of homeopathy, the idea of “like cures like”. More than 200 years later, homeopathy is more common and popular than conventional medicine and the second most widely used medical modality worldwide, as confirmed by the World Health Organization (WHO). Its effectiveness is well documented in a variety of acute and chronic illnesses, epidemics, in people of all ages and animals, demonstrating that homeopathy is more than merely a placebo. The treatment has no contraindications with medication as it is based on the principles of quantum physics, that all living beings have an energetic signature – or field properties – that form the foundation of life. Homeopathy is a modality of medicine that seeks to see the individual as a whole. Treatment and consultations underscore the uniqueness of each person. It is not the disease that is treated, but the person in their entirety.
