Our purpose
NHC exists to expand the mainstream view of healthcare and wellness.
We are a non-profit vibrant school of holistic healthcare education. For 20 years we have accomplished our mission through courses and career diplomas catering to working professionals, curious individuals and the next generation of holistic healthcare practitioners.
We share a passion to serve, explore, explain and apply the integral correlation between body, mind, spirit and our larger body, the Earth. We achieve this by integrating consciousness and science while inspiring personal growth.
We believe that this expanded understanding of health is critical to the sustainability of human life and to our greater harmony and happiness.
As stewards of this community, we want:
To establish NHC as an acclaimed leader in the realm of holistic healthcare education that is grounded in personal experience and empirical science.
To build a clinic and laboratory, offering internships to our students and providing holistic health services, on a sliding scale, to the community.
To build a holistic research centre for the advancement of integrative medicine.
To be an integral and valued part of our surrounding community, collaborating and contributing across disciplines and cultures.
To offer competent and compassionate guidance grounded in knowledge and insight, imbuing our students with an attitude of curious inquiry into the self and the world around us.
To create the conditions for a living community to emerge, one that serves as a compelling example of the change we want to see in the world.
We are successful when our reverberating efforts have led individual people to live more joyful healthful lives. We feel proud of our work together when we recognize that we have contributed to the health and vitality of our surrounding community and of communities around the world. We feel deep fulfillment when we sense that we are contributing to the global shift from unsustainable patterns of energy, thought and action to more life-expanding options.
Four main scenarios must be true for us to reach these goals:
Our curriculum is designed and taught according to the highest standards in our field.
Achieved through constant attention to the relevance and cohesion of our course offerings, whether they are aimed at those embarking on a career in holistic healthcare, those seeking continuing education to enhance their existing practice, or those exploring for personal growth. This includes steady advancement of the value and validity of course content, including openness and attention to new findings and perspectives. All the above is reflected on the continuous development of the quality of our teaching.
We are careful stewards of the NHC community.
The school is presented consistently and professionally; creating conditions for financial well-being, establishing clear standards of excellence and accountability.
As a community, we engage with others beyond our walls to contribute, collaborate and learn. This helps us to ensure that the school’s offerings remain relevant, inspired and respected. By sharing our unique value of a mindful, compassionate community of people it enables us to attract vital external support.
Our stewardship includes the health of the NHC community at all levels, in a truly holistic view. By sensing and supporting the collective wisdom of this community and challenges as opportunities. And being at peace with what is, even as we create the conditions for something more to be born.
We bring this sense of stewardship into our every interaction with each other.
We serve our students by ensuring that the curriculum matches with their needs and interests; by supporting their own healing journey; and by providing resources and encouragement along the way. The aim is to guide them out into the world, ensuring that they are well prepared and equipped to practice what they have learned and offering a community where they may continue to learn, share and belong.
This stewardship also means paying close attention to the ways we engage with each other, coming into each interaction with respect, compassion, patience, curiosity, and most of all, gratitude. And it means that we embrace our diversity, viewing every new perspective as a precious sprout and exploring how it might be integrated into the lush landscape that we are creating of this community. When any of this feels challenging, it means there is an opportunity to attend to our own healing needs.
Our gathering spaces support us fully in all of our ambitions.
Our spaces are congruent with who we are, what we do and what we want to accomplish in the world. They contain physical elements that are thoughtfully chosen and arranged to support our work and our interactions. And they are filled with beauty, light and life, supporting our well-being and creating a sense of the sacred. In these ways, they provide a fertile container in which we may teach, learn and grow together and in which the life of our community may flourish.
